Mission: To be just and fair

In this week’s Monday assembly, Mrs Beer talked about how we should help to make the world more just and fair. We heard a reading based on Psalm 146:

Praise God my soul!

I will praise God all my life

I will make music to God as long as I live.

God helps us

Our hope is in God

Who made heaven and earth

The sea and everything in it

God is loyal

God is just

God gives food to the hungry

God sets prisoners free

God gives sight to the blind

And comforts all who are unhappy

God protects the stranger,

The orphan and the widow

 God reigns for ever!

Our mission this week is for us to be brave enough to change the world and be just and fair whenever we can, so that every day is a little bit more like God wants it to be.

How will you make the world more just and fair this week?

In Year 6, we have been just and fair at breaktimes when playing games altogether. This means we make rules, stick to them and help others to follow them. We also lived out the mission personally by realising when we have perhaps not been just and fair and trying our best to put it right- for example by helping family members, apologising, and sharing with siblings.

    YEAR ONE
We decided it would be fairer if the children took it in turns when playing with the marble run (their favourite toy), so that everyone would get the chance to play.

Year 2 found ways to be fair this week. This is how they completed their mission:
    – They were fair during PE when they were taking turns to pick teams.
    – They refereed games at lunchtime and during PE.
    – One girl shared their coat with someone who was cold.
    – They invited children to play with them who usually they wouldn’t ask.

In Year 3 we have tried to be just and fair at playtimes. We have been following the school and class rules and trying to help those who have difficulty with them. We have played with those who were on their own. We have accepted the consequences of not being just and fair.

In Year 5 our class have been discussing ways that we can show that we can be just and fair. The class have said they have been working on giving the same amount of time to different playtime games. They have discussed in friendship groups how to make things fair, sharing chores when packing away equipment and taking turns.

In Foundation Stage our class talked about what it means to us to be just and fair. The children decided that it was important to think about how long they spend in the most popular areas of the classroom such as the home corner. They decided to think about making sure that everyone has a turn. They also thought about how it is important that everyone helps to tidy up .
