In this week’s mission assembly, Mrs Beer talked to the children about humility. It is a word not many of them had heard before. Humility is about being modest, respectful and putting others before yourself.
We heard how Jesus had demonstrated humility when he washed the feet of the disciples:
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John.
Glory to you, O Lord.
Just before they began their last supper together, Jesus wrapped a towel round himself, filled a bowl of water and knelt before each one of them to wash their feet and wipe them with a towel.
Peter was horrified and tried to refuse. “You shall never wash my feet,” he said. This was the service done by the lowest of all the slaves.
Then Jesus told him, “If I do not wash you, you cannot share my life”.
At this Peter said, “Then, Lord, wash not only my feet, but also my hands and my head”.
When he had finished, Jesus explained exactly what his action meant.
“Do you understand,” he said, “what I have done for you? You call me Master and Lord, and rightly; so I am. If I then, the Lord and Master, have washed your feet, you should wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example, so that you may copy what I have done for you”.
The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

By doing a job usually done by slaves, Jesus gave us an example of how we should show humility and serve others.
We thought about what we could do to serve others:
- Help our parents with the washing up
- Give the books out for the teacher
- Tidy up without being asked
- Even make mum a cup of tea!
Let us know in the comments below how you have achieved this week’s mission: to serve other people.

Year 5 thought about how they could serve others as Jesus did. This week the year 5 children have been helping with the laundry, washed the dishes, made a cup of tea for parents, cooked dinner for family and held the door open for others.
Year 3 have been trying hard to live like Jesus this week. We have been busy serving each other in the classroom sharing resources, helping each other to understand and complete their work and by helping anyone on the playground. At home we have been continuing to serve by helping with the washing up, washing clothes, cleaning bathrooms and making our parents drinks.
Year 1 made bracelets this week with ‘What Would Jesus Do?‘ on, to help us to think about how we can help others.
Year 6 have been thinking about ways we can live like Jesus a lot this week , especially in our RE topic linked to Lent and the new life we are given to be better Christians. We have served others: in class, by helping others in work and being kind and respectful to each other; at home, by respecting parents and helping around the house; and also by raising money for charities like CAFOD.
Year 2 have been learning about serving other people this week. They decided that their mission, this Easter holiday, is to do something nice around the house, like tidy their rooms, out their toys away, help set the table for dinner and wash the dishes. They want to make their family happy and make them smile.
Year 4 served other people by helping parents with chores in the house such as emptying the dishwasher, tidying the garden shed and looking after younger siblings. One of our children has also learned to make a cup of tea which they brought to their mother when she was feeling poorly.
