During this third week of Advent, the pupils and staff have been asked to consider the third Synod question on the theme of ‘Joy’.

  • What does the Holy Spirit inspire us to do in our Church and school?
  • What do you think the Holy Spirit is calling us to do next?

Some of the children’s responses will be posted here.

These questions are also up in the staffroom for staff to add their responses and these will be posted below once complete.

All of the responses will be condensed into an overview and shared with Father Gabriel at St Wilfrid’s Parish Church.

In year 5, we discussed what the word joy means and that utilising the word joy could range from something as little as joy at what you are having for dinner to bigger joys such as the happiness given to us by our church. We were asked to write letters to Father Gabriel outlining the following questions: What does the Holy Spirit inspire us to do in our Church and school and What do you think the Holy Spirit is calling us to do next? We said that the Holy spirit inspires us in church and in school by making us become more kind and mature. When we think about the Holy Spirit, we feel safe and we know that God is with us at all times through the good and bad. We think the Holy spirit helps us to become more positive towards our learning and to help us not give up when life becomes challenging,

In Year 6 we enjoyed exploring the theme of joy this week and thinking about how the Holy Spirit guides us and inspires us to live joyful lives. We said that the Holy Spirit inspires us to be kind and caring towards each other and encourages us spread positivity and joy like Jesus did. We live this out in our school when we treat our classmates with respect and do our best to make each other happy. In our Church and parish this could be through smiling at people, being friendly and taking part enthusiastically in church services. When we looked at what the Holy Spirit is asking us to do next we all agreed that we need to work together to protect God’s creations in the natural world and support the new eco-friendly initiatives gaining popularity across the world. This brings joy as it is preserving our world for future generations.

In Year 4 we talked about what the word joy means to us and how we feel. We talked about how we can bring joy to others and show our joy. We discussed the gifts that the Holy Spirit brings and how it was sent to help the disciples after Jesus died. The Holy Spirit helped the disciples to spread the good news of God and Jesus and we can continue that mission today by talking to our family and friends about what we believe .
We can also spread joy by using our gifts to make people feel happy, help those in need and be good advocates for making the right decisions.

Year 3 have been thinking about ‘What does the Holy Spirit inspire us to do in our Church and school?’ They came up with the ideas that it helps us to be kind, helpful, to be honest, respectful and share with others in the same way as Jesus behaved in the bible stories when he showed love and forgiveness. They spoke about how they felt that the Holy Spirit is calling us to do next and how we need to live out being good Christians through our thoughts and actions and they said that they needed to include more time with God each day through prayer.
