LUKE 6: 27-38 ‘Love your enemies’

This week we hear in our Gospel reading that we should “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful”. We are called to look with mercy and compassion on everyone, not just those people we get along with. Think this week about your relationships and about where you need to show mercy and compassion to those around you.

Mission

Jesus has taught us that we should, love everyone, not just our friends and family. How can we show mercy this week to people we may not always get on with?

This week, two children (Antwan and John Francis) led a lovely liturgy which encouraged us to think about how we can be merciful. We thought about the different forms that showing mercy can take – for example, showing kindness and compassion to others and also being willing to forgive. The two boys used a short role play to really get us thinking – and definitely made us smile with this. Then, as our Mission, we were asked to use our manners throughout the day – something we tried hard with.

This week, in Y5M, we thought about how we can show compassion to others – even if they don’t show it. We discussed how we could help others and what we do to help and support, from big things like buying medical equipment for a family member to looking after our environment by making bird feeders for the garden.
We also thought that we could help each other, even if the person is not our friend: sharing with people who need things – not just those we are friends with, play with and include as many children as possible and helping to comfort those who might be angry, sad or not making good choices.

Mercy- Be merciful to receive mercy
In our liturgy this week, we reflected on how Jesus showed mercy to people in need. He healed the sick, welcomed strangers and pardoned those who persecuted and killed him. Jesus has taught us that we must be merciful and show mercy to others (in our thoughts and feelings), just as God has mercy on us. We spoke about the importance of using Jesus’ example to be more merciful to others this week, including those we may not get along with.
Overall, we have done a great job with our mission this week and showed mercy to others in many ways. We have been more patient with one another, shown forgiveness more readily and been more respectful and compassionate. Keep up the great work, Year 3!

This week, we discussed being merciful within our RE lessons on unity. We thought about what Jesus has taught us (that we should love everyone, not just our friends and family) and how sometimes we can find this difficult. We thought about what Mrs Southall spoke about in Monday’s assembly, about how we all can sometimes feel sad, mad or glad and we can have compassion for those people who are feeling that way and show them mercy.
