The Chaplaincy Team met with Sr Dorothy Paul, our parsh sister. They are very keen to develop the links between the parish and the school because, owing to COVID restrictions, we do not feel as close as we have previously been.
The children were keen to find out more about the job of a parish sister, and also to find out more about the life of the sisters in the Fransciscan Convent.
Sr Dorothy explained that her job involved, amonst many other things, visiting the sick, helping Fr Tom run the parish, preparing First Communion and Confirmation candidates and fostering and supportig the prayer life of the parish. She also answered their prepared questions about her vocation, explaining that the best thing about being a nun was her relationship with God, which helped the children reflect on their own experiences as Christians and their relationship with God.
The children discussed what they could do to help with this and decided that tey would create a parish information board in the school showing the pupils the parish churches, pictures of the key people and Mass times. They also decided to display the Mass times and the parish newsletter so that people would be encouraged to attend Mass. They agreed that during celebration liturgies on Fridays, if anything is happening in the parish, they will share this with the school community and encourage them to participate.
They also wanted to find out more about Confirmation and are going to interview our Year 6 Confirmation candidate to explore what Confirmation is and why she wants to be confirmed.
They will be meeting with Sr Dorothy Paul half termly to update their progress and to share ideas to develop the relationship with the parish.
