John 13: 31 – 33, 34 – 35
‘By this love you have for one another, everyone will know that you are my disciples.’

To be a witness involves two things. The first is seeing something happen that you remember and that has an effect on you. The second is telling others about what you have seen. The first disciples were witness to the resurrection and we too can be witness to Christ when we recognise him at work in our world. The question is, how will you tell others what you’ve seen so that the Good News continues to be heard?
In our Gospel reading this week, the disciples in the Gospel were recognised by their love for each other. The disciples were witnesses and shared the ‘Good News’ with others.
MISSION: How can we be Christ’s mission in the world? How can we share the Good News with others?

Soleil and Sharisa lead us in a beautiful liturgy today. They passed the Bible around the class as this week’s theme was discussed. In yesterday’s Lectio, we read scripture from John 21. We discussed how the disciples witnessed the nail marks in Jesus’ hands. It filled the disciples with joy as we are filled with the joy of Jesus in our lives today.
In Year 6, both classes (Miss Billington and Ms Noon) have been considering how they can be a witness as part of their most recent RE topic. This cumulated in children producing pieces of work, linking to Lydia listening to Paul and St. Stephen standing up for what he believed in and becoming the first Christian Martyr. In Circle Time, we discussed how to respond in real-life scenarios, following Jesus’ example. This was further followed up on a trip to the Warning Zone where children again developed their understanding of how to be a good citizen.
This week, Year 3 have reflected on how we can be Christ’s mission in the world and how can we share the Good News with others. During our circle time, the children shared many wonderful examples to ensure that the Good News continues to be heard. These examples included going to mass, praying to Jesus, reading the bible, donating to charity and singing hymns.
This week, Year 1 spoke on what a witness is and how we can be God’s witnesses. We reflected on how we can show our love and care to those around us at school, home and in the community. We then reflected on what Good News we had recently learnt about following Eastertide and how we could spread this Good News to others. The children came up with many ways such as praying, visiting churches, talking to people and telling them stories that they have learnt.
