In assembly this week, the word “example” was introduced.

Mrs Price explained that quite often we look up to footballers, movie stars or pop stars as role models, but we should remember that our greatest role model is in the Bible – Jesus.

We looked at the picture of Jesus watching his disciple’s feet – showing us how to serve, that no-one is any better than anyone else – we are all children of God.

We heard how Jesus was a good role model by being kind, healing the sick, helping others and being selfless.

This mission therefore is to be a good role model, just as Jesus is a role model to us.

Ideas included:

•Helping the teacher

•Listening carefully

•Writing neatly in all books

•Being a peacemaker on the playground

•Playing nicely with everyone

Let us know in the comments below how you achieved this week’s mission.

Year 4 discussed how we could be role models to each other in the class by showing good listening, working hard, persevering, sharing and speaking to each other kindly. We also talked about how we could be good role models for others n school by playing kindly, sharing equipment, showing compassion and saying sorry. We thought about who our role models are singers, sports stars etc and how they show us how to behave.

In year 5, we talk about being role models quite often. We spoke about how the younger children look up to us because we are upper KS2 so we know that we should be setting good examples to them. We discussed that we should show them how to stand quietly and sensibly in our lines on the playground. We also discussed setting a good example in the dinner hall at lunch time. We also spoke about setting as good work ethic example and showing not only the younger children, but our other peers that we should put in 100% effort into everything that we do.

In year 6 we are always thinking about the ways we are role models to the younger children. We are the oldest in the school so have to set a good example to the lower years. We do this in our behaviour, attitude to learning and respect to staff and each other. We are also role models to our peers when we set high expectations for ourselves in our work and attitude that others can copy. This is why we should always try our best, for ourselves and for others watching.
