Our chaplaincy team came together on Friday morning to learn more about their new role as class chaplains. The junior chaplains walked up to the Infant site to meet the chaplains in Year 1 and Year 2 – the whole team got along really well together.
During the morning, we played getting to know you games and received our special chaplaincy badges. We started our time together with a short liturgy prepared by Miss Dodd which included this piece of scripture, relating to our roles as new chaplains:
34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” – John 13:34-35
We then learned how to evaluate a classroom prayer area by playing a sorting cards game.
After break, Mrs Hainsworth and Miss Dodd modelled how to lead Christian Meditation as this will be one of our new jobs in our classrooms as chaplains. We all wrote down what we were thinking of as we were meditating, or anyone we were praying for.
We decided to act out the story of the Feeding of the 5,000 as it is about sharing what little we have with others. We practiced in our Junior and Infant teams and decided on what props we would need to convey this miracle in our liturgy.
We spent the rest of the morning jointly planning our upcoming liturgies for the Harvest Festival. Here are some pictures of our planning process:
We wrote our opening and closing prayers by coming up with sentences in pairs linking to the theme of Harvest.
The Infant chaplains are meeting this week with Mrs Hainsworth to finalise their Harvest liturgy plans, while the Junior chaplains will be attending a visit to the Rosmini Centre House of Prayer to deepen their understanding of being spiritual leaders of faith in our school.
