Fasting is a way of showing self-discipline and of focusing on our relationship with God. Fasting can also be a way of expressing solidarity with those who are less fortunate. Fasting is an important part of Lent, as it allows us to follow the example of Jesus in the desert, and to grow in our compassion for others.
Our Mission
What can you go without this Lent? Think of something that you can give up leaving more time and space for what’s important. In your mission circles year 6 to record each child’s Lenten promise. We can then look back at this at the end of the Lenten Term.

This week, the theme of fasting has been ever present in our discussions. We started the week by exploring at Pope Francis’ tips for fasting in our Mission Circles. Then, in our whole-school Liturgy we were encouraged to reflect more deeply on this theme. In our Y6 Lectio Divina on Wednesday, we studied Luke 4:1-2 when Jesus went into the desert. And, in RE, we thought about fasting as part of how we can ‘die to our old ways to live a new life’ as well as how Jesus was tempted by satan while in the desert for 40 days and 40 nights.
