The crucifixion and death of Jesus

(Luke 23: 26-40)

(4th Week of Lent)

This week we will be thinking about the sacrifice that Jesus made for us. His death and resurrection are at the heart of our faith and they are the reason that we have our school and our Church today. We are called to make sacrifices too, not necessarily to give our lives, but maybe to give our time, or our love or our compassion. Think about the people who make sacrifices for you and what that means to you. Think about how you can make sacrifices for others this week.

This week find time to share something with others.

This week, we have thought about those who sacrifice for us and those we sacrifice for.
We have shown appreciation for our parents who sacrifice so much for us; we have thought about those who look after us when we are sick; we have considered those who step up and show they care for us when we are struggling – appreciating that they are sacrificing their time for us.
We have also tried to share with others; we have shared our thoughts and ideas, our possessions, we have shared our talents when helping those who are finding work challenging.

This week, we thought about how we could sacrifice our time for helping others and to show compassion. We have been trying to do this within the classroom and around school. We discussed that this could be to help people we know well, like our friends and family, but also people we don’t know, who might be struggling e.g. refugees, people who are homeless, ill or in need.

In Y6B, Antwan and Betty challenged to sacrifice some of our time to spend it with God. Alongside this, we have continued to take some time out of whatever we are doing at 3pm to spend a couple of minutes praying for peace in Ukraine with children being encouraged to keep this up on Saturday and Sunday too.

This week, we have been thinking about the sacrifice that Jesus made for us by giving his life on the cross. We talked about how this was the ultimate sacrifice and that even Jesus struggled with it. We shared our ideas of how we make sacrifices for others, this could be with our time, money or talents. We make these sacrifices, to improve the lives of others by making them happy, feel welcomed or wanted and to show them that we care.
