This week we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. When Our Lady appeared to St Bernadette, she called people to her to bathe in the water, to repent and find healing. Today millions of people visit Lourdes looking for the same peace and healing in their lives. There have been many miraculous healings in Lourdes over the years and we too can look for healing in our lives through faith. That healing is not always physical, sometimes it can be mental or emotional too and as we celebrate this beautiful feast let us think about the things that we need healing and how we can bring healing to others.

Our mission this week is to think about what do we need healing from and how can we bring healing to others?

Some things to think about:

  • Have our feelings been hurt?
  • Have we had a disagreement with someone and would like to make up?
  • Do we know anyone who is poorly, how can we help them heal quickly?

In Year 6 and in our Mission Circles, we have been discussing the different types of healing we might experience such as physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
We talked about the different people we could go to for help if we or anyone we know needed any help with any of these (nurses, doctors, vets, teachers, your family, close friends, trusted adults and God). We thought about different things that people may be experiencing (grief, sadness, anger, worry, stress) and how we could help them to heal. We could spend time with the people we love, do something we enjoy and spend time in prayer.

This week, Y6B have thought about the importance of saying sorry/seeking forgiveness when they hurt someone’s feelings and also being forgiving when someone tries to put a wrong right with them. In our RE lesson at the start of the week, we thought about the meaning of the word ‘community’ and how being ‘united’ brings happiness. This linked well with the children identifying how Jesus brings both physical and mental healing and how because of Jesus’ death on the cross, we can be united with God.

This week, we have reflected on the meaning of healing and how healing is not always physical, sometimes it can be mental or emotional too. Our mission this week encouraged us think about what we needed healing from and how can we bring healing to others. During discussion in our Mission Circles on Friday, we reflected on our mission this week and spoke about the ways in which we had been given healing and had brought healing to others. Examples from the children included asking for help when our feelings had been hurt, being a peacemaker to friends who had fallen out, helping the sick and showing forgiveness to others.

In Year 2, We have thought about how our bodies heal when we are hurt. We then considered how our feelings can be hurt then healed if we forgive those who have hurt us. God helps us to do this through prayer.
