This week as a Church we focus on racial justice. We still live in a world where people are sometimes treated differently and unfairly because of their race. Think this week about how you can celebrate the different cultures that make up your communities and find out more about how you can work for justice for all.
Our mission this week is to celebrate what an amazing community Holy Cross is.

Our Liturgical Prayer today was led by Aziah, Skyla and Casper.
Skyla gathered us all together at the beginning of our liturgy by lighting a candle and making the sign of the cross. Then we listened to the hymn, ‘Be still and know that I am God’, thinking about how Jesus, who is the light of the world, showed justice towards others. Afterwards, Skyla, Aziah and Casper each read a part of the bible story from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew, about how Jesus healed a man with a skin disease. The children were then asked by the group to reflect on the reading and record on a template of a hand, a small prayer, based on the theme. Finally, the week’s mission was discussed and thoughts were shared about how they could achieve it. Some children suggested helping people in need, sharing with someone, being kind and patient and looking after our world. The group finished the liturgy by making the sign of the cross and blowing out the candle.

This week, we have thought about ‘justice’ as part of our Circle Time. Firstly, we discussed whether a plastic bottle or a metal (reusable) water bottle is the best choice to buy. Secondly, we talked about whether plastic bags or reusable canvas bags are best. Thirdly, we discussed what Fair Trade is and whether we should buy Fair Trade or oridnary chcolate. As part of our pupil-led liturgy, we heard about the poor widow who gave more than others (Luke 21:1-4). This linked well to our RE lesson where we were reminded to give generously as we are all part of one body (Romans 12:3-10).
In Year 4, we have really thought about what justice means to us. We discussed how we felt it meant that everyone should be treated with respect even when they are different to us. We read the story of the Good Samaritan and talked about how even though these two men should not get on and their people don’t like each other, the Samaritan helped the injured man and looked after him.
One of the children said, ” Justice is when you bring peace to somewhere and you do it fairly.” We thought that this was a good message for us to carry forward so have put it on our prayer table to remind us of how we can bring justice to others.
