The word vocation comes from the Latin for “to call” and it reminds us that we all have a calling from God to be the person he created us to be. Finding that vocation and hearing that call however can be really hard sometimes and it’s often difficult to know what we should do with our lives.
Our Mission – This week spend some time in prayer thinking about what God might be calling you to do with your life. Often it’s not what we expect but when you find something that you love that is usually a good sign you’re on the right track!

In Year 6B, the children know that as Christians they are called by God to spread the word and to encourage others to get baptised. The children could also talk about the different things they are being ‘called’ to. This included: being an artist, being a doctor who helps those that are sick, being a vet in the army and working as a scientist. The children linked back to our RE topic from earlier in the year (Vocation & Commitment) and the words of Saint John Henry Newman where he reminds us that we are called to do a definite service.
This week, Year 5 have reflected on the word vocation, thinking about what God is calling them to do. This week’s mission has provoked some great discussion amongst the children, with many stating that they knew already what they wanted to do when they were older. Vocations shared by the children included being a nurse, footballer, teacher, vet, parent, and an artist. It was great to hear so much interest from the children about their future occupations. Even though there were some children who were still unsure about their future vocations, they felt inspired by the adults in the audio clip talk about their chosen vocation during our assembly on Monday.
