Dialogue

Jesus calls us to engage in dialogue with those who are different from us.  We should listen to the perspective of others, even if we disagree with them and through dialogue come to understand and love them better.  We should always be open to learning from others and often the first step is to enter into dialogue.

Our mission this week:

Have lots of conversations this week, with lots of different people.  Make and effort to really listen to what people are saying.

In you mission circles share something about yourself that others may not know.  Can we all listen carefully and remember these facts on Friday?

Year 2 children participated in a lovely Lectio Divina led by this week’s liturgy leaders. They led us in our opening prayer and helped create our sacred prayer space. They explained that we are using a green cloth for ordinary time. This week’s theme is Dialogue and we listened to a scripture story of Jesus with Martha and Mary. Mary welcomed Jesus and then sat with him to listen to him speak with her. Martha wanted Jesus to feel welcome by preparing the food and making sure that Jesus is comfortable. Our journaling focus was to Imagine that you are sitting at Jesus’ feet. Listen to him. What is he saying to you? Children then had time to respond. to this scripture. Some children said Jesus was telling them to be kind, make right choices. Another said Jesus was saying to them he loved them and their family. The children in Year 2 had a lovely time to reflect and think about being in dialogue with Jesus- not only talking but truly listening.

In Y6, we had a lively debate about whether children should wear school uniform or not. The children learnt to listen and respond respectfully to others as well as to constructively challenge those that they disagree with.

Our mission this week was to have lots of conversations, with lots of different people. Overall, everyone has embraced the mission brilliantly and tried hard to reach out to others and talk more. It has been wonderful to hear so many lovely conversations happening in the playground at playtime and lunchtime, as well as during our Mission Circles and Circle Time. Well done to everyone for going that extra mile for this week’s mission.
