Last week, we were lucky enough to welcome English Martyrs’ chaplain, Mr Noakes, into our school to train up five budding year 5 and year 6 children who are interested in becoming Altar Servers for our school masses. They learned reasons behind why certain things are done on the altar and the meaning behind them.
Mr Noakes also trained them on specifically serving the Bishop, as we prepare for our 70th Anniversary mass in the coming days. They learnt how to look after the Bishop’s Mitre and Crosier, hold the Bible for him to read the Gospel and what to do with the processional candles.
The children really enjoyed practising for their new responsibility and will continue their training next week.

Thomas (year 5) – “I learnt how to hold the Cross of Jesus properly. This helps me to understand how precious Jesus is, that I have to take good care of holding it. I felt very happy because I was able to live out serving God.”
Mia (year 6) – “Today’s altar serving training will help me because if anyone asks me about why certain things happen in the mass, I will be able to share a bit of my knowledge. I learnt that the Bishop’s Crozier is always facing away from him. I felt very important and lucky to be learning how to serve for the Bishop.”
