|In this week’s assembly, Mrs Beer talked to us about “belonging”.|
As we start the new academic year, we have new members of our community: new children have joined us, not only in EYFS, but in other classes too. We welcome new staff members: Mrs Chudwudebe and Mrs Price in Year 1, Mr Read, our new sports coach and Mrs Wortley, our new lunchtime supervisor.
Our school is a community and it is important that our new community members feel that they belong here at St Clare’s. A feeling of belonging is important. It makes us feel happy and safe so that we can thrive and be the best that we can be.
|We are also a Catholic community, a community of children of God. In this reading, we hear how St Paul stresses that we are all one, no matter what our differences may be. |
A reading from the letter of St Paul to the Galatians
It is through faith that all of you are God’s children in union with Christ Jesus. You were baptised into union with Christ, and now you are clothed, so to speak, with the life of Christ himself. So there is no difference between Jews and Gentiles, between slaves and free people, between men and women; you are all one in union with Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are the descendants of Abraham and will receive what God has promised.
The Word of the Lord
Thanks be to God
We made sure that everyone in assembly had a sense of belonging by offering each other a fist bump as a sign of Peace.
Our weekly mission is to make sure that everyone feels that they belong to the St Clare’s community.
How could we do this? The children had some great ideas:
– By smiling and saying hello.
– By making sure no one is left out at playtime.
– By sitting next to someone new at lunchtime.
– By talking to new staff members.
– By saying hello to visitors.
Remember to tell us in the comments below how you achieved this week’s mission!
We ended our assembly with a prayer:
Thank you for making me a part of the St Clare’s community, Thank you for the happiness, safety and joy that belonging to this school brings, Help me to make those new to our school feel welcome so that they may also have this sense of belonging, Help us to remember that we are also part of the Catholic community, joined together by your love,
