Hi everyone! We wanted to give you an update on how our Chaplaincy team is going and what we’ve been up to so far in 2024/25.
Acheivements!
We have got lot’s done this year and are very proud of the things we’ve achieved so far. These things include:
- Divine Mercy assembly in memory of Pope Francis
- Colour dash to support Leicester Children’s Holidays – we raised around £1600
- Class prayers – we made a prayer for each class to link with their class Saints
- Big Lent walk – the whole school got involved in this and we raised money for CAFOD
- Improving the spaces in school – we used some money donated by the local Loughborough Catenians group to buy a Catholic Social Teaching board for the hall and an outdoor Stations of the Cross for the playground. We’ve been using these to pray with other students in school
- We’ve been checking classrooms to support teachers to make sure that the cloth is changed at times in the liturgical year and that they have the items they need
- We’ve made posters and used the Communications team to update the school and invite them to get involved in our plans
Challenges!
Throughout this year, we have had some challenges we have had do deal with. This is how we overcame them:
- Lay Chaplain – Our Lay Chaplain left. To overcome this we have elected new leadership roles within the team. eg: we have a president to keep things steady during the meetings, a secretary to keep everyone on track and to take notes and a treasurer to keep accounts.
- Engagement – Before, not many people joined to do the Rosary or Stations of the Cross. To address this we spoke with our Headteacher and she suggested that we used rewards to encourage people to come. People get Dojo points for coming along.
Plans for the rest of the year…
We have one half term left this year and we are planning to:
- Run a Pentecost door challenge where each class designs their own door to mark this important celebration in the Church
- Year 5 students will interview and support the appointment of a new Lay Chaplain and Deputy Headteacher
- Create new Lunchtime and end of day prayers
