Sending Help

John 20: 19 – 23 After saying this, He breathed on them and said: “Receive the Holy Spirit.”.

This week we’re celebrating Pentecost! After going up to heaven, Jesus sent His Holy Spirit to the disciples and all who believed, to help them follow Him and to bring peace and forgiveness. This week we will recognise that we can have the Holy Spirit of God inside us too!

Our mission this week:

Just like Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to the disciples at Pentecost, we too can receive the Holy Spirit as our ‘helper’.

• The Holy Spirit helps us to follow Jesus.

• The Holy Spirit helps us to know right from wrong and ask God for forgiveness.

 • The Holy Spirit helps us to bring peace and forgiveness to the world.

This week our mission is to think of ways to bring peace and forgiveness in the world, e.g. saying sorry when we are wrong or have hurt someone; forgiving others quickly when they hurt us etc. These things can feel very hard to do, and it is the Holy Spirit who helps us.

In Year 6, we have identified some times when we have needed to say sorry during the week. This has included: when we have used unkind words when interacting with someone else, when we have not listened to our parents as we should and when we have not shared as readily with others as we would usually. We have also thought about the times where we have been required to be forgiving. This has included: when someone else has been unkind to us and when someone has accidentally hurt us. We also discussed the need to always be willing to forgive and that just as God and others forgive us, we need to ready to forgive anyone who hurts us.
