Our youngest children, from EYFS, led us in our Pentecost Liturgy this afternoon.
They reminded us that Pentecost ends the fifty days of Easter and that it is the birthday of the church – the children had banners and party blowers to celebrate!
We heard this reading from the Acts of the Apostles which the children acted out:
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles
When the day of Pentecost came, all the believers were gathered together in one place. Suddenly there was a noise from the sky which sounded like a strong wind blowing, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then they saw what looked like tongues of fire which spread out and touched each person there. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to talk in other languages, as the Spirit enabled them to speak.

The children then told us about the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit and we prayed to God to help us to use these gifts.
Each class then read out how they were going to use the Gifts of the Holy Spirit to be more like Jesus – these were then hung on our prayer tree.
The children performed a dance to “Pentecost Song” by John Burland before we ended with all children across the school waving read and yellow ribbons in time to another song by John Burland – Holy Spirit. These ribbons represented the fiery wid that originally brought the Holy Spirit upon the disciples.
It was a wonderful liturgy and we are very proud of our EYFS children!
