In 6N, we have said Mary’s special prayer and will continue with this each day in October. During mission circles, we thought about who we want to pray for. We thought of people who are close to us, our family and friends, but then also of people we don’t know, who might be grieving, ill or struggling in poverty. We will bring in 20p to raise money for CAFOD and will donate some spare food to the Harvest collection. We linked this to our RE work on the Beatitudes.

In 6B, we are going to aim to say the Hail Mary each day during the month of October. Today, we spent some time thinking about who we would like to pray for at these times. The children were very thoughtful; they identified a wide range of people and reasons why they wanted to keep them in their prayers. This included our brothers and sisters around the world who are less fortunate than ourselves as well as close family members. Some children talked about praying to God, asking for healing, whereas others wanted God to bring comfort to those mourning the loss of a loved one. Some members of the class also knew of big things that their family members will be facing in the coming weeks and months and would like to use their times in prayer to ask God to help those people.
For our liturgy this week, we reflected on the importance of the rosary and Mary. In honour of Mary, our prayer leaders placed a statue of Mary onto the prayer table, along with a blue cloth, an image of Mary at the foot of Jesus’ cross, and some rosary beads. A candle was also lit throughout our liturgy to call us to think about Mary, the mother of Jesus, the light of the world. Hymns were sung and prayers were offered up to Mary too. At the end of our liturgy, we created a postcard which reflected the message heard about Mary’s love for everyone, including her enemies from the scripture passage to share with our friends and family.
We have also continued to think about Mary throughout the week as well by praying Mary’s special prayer every day in class.
