Black History Month gives everyone the opportunity to share, celebrate and understand the impact of black heritage and culture. It also serves as a reminder of the incredible beauty of our diverse communities. It inspires us to celebrate our differences and recognise that we are all unique and important parts of the Body of Christ.
This week think about what you bring to your community and just how much you receive from those around you. What makes you unique?

This week, in both their Mission Circles and their whole class Circle Time, the children have been encouraged to think about what makes them unique. Some children in 6B found this harder than others – but with some encouragement, everyone was able to name something that makes them special. We celebrated the different languages the children speak, talents (e.g. drawing and playing football), and that some members of our class have a special job in school like being the captain of the football team or as part of the ‘Chaplaincy Team’.
In our class liturgy on Wednesday, we reflected on all the amazing things we bring to our school community each day, and how much wonderful help and support we receive from those around us. We began our liturgy by drawing something that linked to this week’s theme of Diversity, reinforcing the message of how we are all unique and important parts of the body of Christ. Before the scripture was read, we put into our prayer hands a talent or skill that we each have and offered it up to God. After listening to the scripture passage, we reflected on ‘the word’ and a mini cross was passed around the class, allowing us time to think about the people in our class and their differences. We have spent the rest of the week talking to God in prayer and thanking him for our uniqueness.
Year 2 held a special liturgy led by our class liturgy prayer leaders about Diversity. The scripture talked about us all being part of one body but each part has a special job. We reflected about how we are all unique and we each have special talents and gifts to give to others. The children were able to identify how they can use their own individual gifts to make people happy. Part of the mission was to go and help others and suggested picking up litter. Some children came in after break time to tell others how they were picking up rubbish to care for God’s world and show love to others.
This week, we have been thinking about what makes us unique and special. During mission circles and within class, we shared our gifts and talents with each other and what we admired about each other. We thought about our similarities and differences and know that diversity should be celebrated.
