Our new chaplaincy teams lead their first liturgy today to celebrate the wonderful harvest God has provided for us. Our Junior and Infant chaplains planned this liturgy together on their training morning in late September supported by Miss Dodd and Mrs Hainsworth, so it was fantastic to see their hard work and training pay off today.
The team collaboratively wrote the opening prayer which set the theme for the liturgy: give what little we have to others. As Christians, we believe we should share whatever we have and live by Jesus’ example.
We chose some of our favourite hymns about showing love to others, because charity, one of the virtues, is LOVE! We also chose the song ‘I give thanks’ to show our attitude of gratitude to God for providing us with the bounty of dried food goods our school community has donated that we can share with our local brothers and sisters in need through the Braunstone Foodshare.
The chaplains chose to explore the miracle of the Feeding of the 5,000 as their scripture for the Harvest Festival because it teaches us to share what little we have with others, and to do all things in love. Our chaplains have been practising over the past few days to represent this scripture through drama.
Following our scripture, we asked classes to think about what they could share with others, taking inspiration from how Jesus taught us to share in the Gospel reading. Each class read out their class harvest pledge which they have committed to doing over the rest of the Advent term. Scroll down to the comments section to read the class pledges.
We then spent some time in reflection before asking God to watch over those who are less fortunate that ourselves, and to fill us with the compassion needed to continue serving those most vulnerable in our community.
Our missions from the Harvest Liturgy are to complete our individual class pledges.
The Braunstone Foodshare will be collecting the generous donations after school on Friday and we have no doubt that they will be overwhelmed with the kind offerings made by our families. We thank you all for your contributions.

KS2 Chaplaincy Team: “We are going to share…. Jesus’ life, words and love with the school community.”
1SR: “1SR pledge to donate things like toothpaste and soap to those who need it.”
4HB: “We are going to share love and kindness in our community by helping each other develop our God given talents.”
6DM: “We are going to pray for those who do not have access to food or fresh water like we do.”
In 1SL we have decided to give to charity over this Harvest season, to help people within our community.
2NT Class Harvest pledge – Mrs Taylor’s class will help people to be treated fairly by giving what we don’t need to charity.
2SF pledge to donate blankets and pillows to those less fortunate than themselves.
4LM/LW Class Harvest Pledge- Mrs Morris & Mrs Wooldridge’s class pledge to be mindful of food wastage in school and at home.
6LS are pledging to eat all of their lunch, not to waste food and to think about those less fortunate that don’t have enough to eat.
4GO will practise prudence by recycling or reusing equipment instead of throwing it away and wasting it to protect the world we have been given.
5HS will practice the virtue of justice by donating chocolate selection boxes to charity so children, who would otherwise not get a present at Christmas, receive something.
3GH will practice the virtue of justice by raising money through sponsors to give to charities such as the Braunstone Foodshare.
We will raise money by completing a sponsored walk, walking 4 laps per day around the playground for one week, resulting in 2 and a half miles!
