Being a disciple means following a teacher or a way of life, it’s where we get the word discipline from. It reminds us that to follow Jesus we have to live like him and shape our lives in a way that reflects who he was and what he taught. This week we celebrate the Baptism of Jesus which marked the start of his active ministry. That ministry would go on to change the whole world and just like then, we are called to be disciples of Jesus today.

This week Year 1 have been thinking about how we can be a disciple and follow in Jesus footsteps. We thought of ideas such as ‘making right choices’, ‘being a light like Jesus’, ‘ be like Jesus and teach others’, ‘to be kind and helpful’ and ‘to treat others how we want to be treated’. We learnt about Jesus’ baptism and discuss how following this Jesus taught others and how it is similar to baptisms now from our previous topic. Going forwards we will continue to be a disciple of Jesus and follow in his footsteps modelling and teaching others how we can be more like Jesus.
Discipleship
This week’s Liturgical Prayer was planned and led by Naira, Freddie, Devon and Jack.
At the start of the liturgy, Naira gathered us all together by lighting a candle, making the sign of the cross and reading a prayer aloud. Next, Devon read the scripture passage from the gospel of St Mark which explained how Jesus called Simon and his brother Andrew, and James and John, the sons of Zebedee to be his disciples, and how we should use this example to follow Jesus in our lives in a way that reflects who Jesus was and what he taught. Afterwards, Jack asked the children to write/draw what they thought discipleship meant to them. Finally, Freddie ended our liturgy by reflecting on our mission, finding out from the children how they were going to live out being more like Jesus. Well done to Naira, Freddie, Devon and Jack for planning and leading such a beautiful liturgy.
This week, we focused on discipleship, which meant living like Jesus and acting in a way that reflected what he taught.

– Helping other children (with work, if they were hurt or struggling)
– Reading the Bible and reflecting upon its message
– Being a role model to younger children and each other
– Following the Golden Rules (Be Kind and Show Respect)
This week, we have been thinking about how we might be a disciple of Jesus. The children in Y6B have thought of lots of ways that they have accomplished this during the week. This has included the following: helping friends when they are stuck with their work, holding the door for members of our school community, comforting a friend when they are feeling sad, helping their siblings with homework or reading, trying their best with everything that is asked of them, and helping family members to prepare food or tidy at home.
