This week, children from Years 3,4,5 and 6 and a young man from a local secondary school were enrolled in our parish First Communion preparation programme. We had 14 children from St Francis and were delighted to welcome 11 children who attend other schools in Melton Mowbray.
The children and their families came to the 10.30 Mass at St Francis church. They were nervous but excited. The children told the people of the parish how much they wanted to make their communion because they loved Jesus and wanted to get closer to Him. They received their workbooks and prayer books from Fr Tom and promised to learn the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be and the Act of Contrition so that they were ready to make their First Reconciliation.
After the parents had signed the enrollment forms, and Fr Tom explained the role of the parents as the first and best teachers of their children, the children stood on the altar and sang ‘Away in a manger’ to celebrate the final Sunday of the Christmas season – the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord.
The children begin their preparation sessions next Sunday. Please keep them in your prayers as they begin their journey towards a deeper relationship with Jesus, moving on from the promises their parents made for them at Baptism, and making their own choices and promises as they grow and learn as Christians.
What do you want to say to the children? Please leave comments or write a short prayer asking God to help them on their journey of faith.

Congratulations for continuing your journey on building your relationship with Jesus.
The class have created a prayer for the children:
Dear God,
Please help these children build their bridge with you and help to continue their journey in faith, making their own choices in their life with you.
Amen.
