The word inspire means “filled with the spirit” and there are times when all of us take inspiration from the events and people around us. St Paul was inspired by a vision of Christ to change his ways and be a better person on the road to Damascus – we too can be inspired by Christ to change for the better. This week, think about how you can be inspirational.
Mission: How could you show others how to live their lives in a better way?
Some things we could do to Inspire:
- Lead by example
- Remind others what it means to be S.M.A.R.T.

In Year 4, we have been thinking about people who inspire us. We can be inspired by many different people, these include members of our family, our friends, our teachers, people in our communities and famous people. We discussed how we all have different gifts and talents given to us by God. These gifts and talents help us to be a diverse community. When we share our gifts with others, we can inspire them to take risks and learn from us.
Y6B have had such a fruitful conversation about what inspires them as well as how they can be an inspiration to others. One pupil mentioned how she has inpsired her cousin by being a part of the Girls’ Football League team. Another pupil identified how a peer inspires them because they know and share so much about the world of science. Some pupils also mentioned how their parents are an inspiration. A common theme was how we as a Catholic can be inpsired by the life of Jesus. As part of our Circle Time this week, we challenged gender stereotypes. The children were extremely mature and realised the role they can play – for example, acknowledging that although we may associate men or women with certain jobs (nurses, mechnaics), that this is wrong and doesn’t mean it is the way it should be. The children understand that they can inspire others and that your gender does not determine whether you can play with dolls, climb trees or be afraid of spiders.
This week, we thought about how Christ inspires us to make changes and be better people and how we could show others how to live their lives in a better way.
Some examples were:
– Sharing toys with our siblings (inspiring them to be generous too)
– Using our manners and showing people respect
– Help people with their learning (inspire them to persevere when they find something tricky)
– Encourage people to make the right choices
– Focus on our character muscles (compassion, co-operation, determination etc.)
In RE, we also linked to Jesus feeding the 5000 and how stories like this, showing his generosity and care, inspire us to act in the same way. For example, collecting food during Harvest time and toiletries for the reverse Advent Calendar.
Year 1 this week have been thinking about what they do in school, home and our communities to inspire others. We thought hard about what the word inspire meant and how we can inspire others. We came up with lots of suggestions such as being a kind friend, a good role model, making right choices, listening to others and being a kind and caring friend. We have tried to model this to others this week and hope to continue inspiring others in the future.
Our mission this week was to think about how we could show others how to live their lives in a better way. Through discussion in our Mission Circles, Liturgical Prayer and Circle Time this week, the children have shared many wonderful examples of how they had been inspiring to others. Examples from the children included following the Golden Rules, supporting their learning partners, helping their family with household chores, praying to God daily, being a good friend, picking up litter, recycling and being honest. A big well done for making everyone at Holy Cross proud for giving 100% to your mission this week!
