This week, Year 2 led us in a liturgy thinking about how we can be true disciples of Jesus. They chose the song ‘1000 Reasons’ for us to gather together because it is all about how we should worship and love God, who is rich in mercy and slow to anger. We love and trust God because as His disciples in the world we try to be like Him by loving others and showing mercy and forgiveness to everyone.
Ella lit a candle to remind us that Jesus is here with us when we are following His mission in our lives. The children showed us the 12 apostles, Jesus’ first disciples to remind us that we are His disciples today even if, like the apostles, we are sometimes worried, confused and make mistakes.
Instead of reading the Gospel, the children chose the hymn ‘Follow Me’ which is based on the gospel of Matthew chapter 4. The school really enjoyed singing along and it helped even the youngest children to understand the message of the scripture.
Billy explained that all the creatures of the world have their homes, but humans find their happiness in God and that only by following Him can we be really happy, our home, where we belong, is with God in Heaven. Our work on this Earth is to be disciples following Jesus and travelling towards our true home.

Jack led us in a thank you prayer: ‘Dear God, thank you for making us your disciples and allowing us to learn from you. We love you and follow you always. Amen’
The children challenged us to make a promise to follow the message of the hymn – to follow Jesus and to try to be like Him.
What promise would you make to Jesus about following Him and being His disciple?
