On Friday, Year 3/4 went to Mass at the Convent Chapel next to the school. The children enjoyed going to the church. Jack noticed that there was a statue of a white dove above the altar which reminded him that the Holy Spirit comes down on the bread and wine at the consecration so that they become the body and blood of Jesus. Many children also commented on the sunlight shining through the stained glass showing Jesus and His apostles which reminded us that Jesus was there with us. Violet enjoyed spending some quiet time with God.

The Gospel told us about the names of the apostles and Fr Tom asked some of the children for their names. He asked them if any of them had the same names as the apostles. None of them did so Fr Tom explained that we are all apostles of Jesus and, just like them, we need to spread the Good News of Jesus with our words and actions. He told us that Blessed Cyprian Tansi was a Nigerian monk and priest who lived out the Good News. He spent some of his life in St Bernard’s Abbey near Coalville, where he prayed and spent time with God. He is blessed because he is on the path to being a saint. Fr Tom explained that we can all be like Blessed Cyprian by making good choices and trying to spend time with God every day.

The children thought about how they could do this. Igbinosa said we needed to be kind to everyone and love them like Jesus did. Eva thought that we should pray to God every day. Alexa said that we could forgive people who hurt us, just like Jesus did to the people who killed him.

How could you make good choices following the example of Blessed Cyprian Tansi?

The children liked that Blessed Cyprian shared the Good News and that he made good choices in his life.

We made a list of good choices that we could make:
    -Use kind hands and feet
-Look after our world – pick up litter, turn off lights, turn the tap off
    -Use kind words
    -Use our manners
    -Give donations
