How often do we accept the challenges from God and follow Jesus? As Christians, we face many challenges along our faith journey and we can look to the inner strength that is given to us by God so that we are able to follow in the footsteps of Jesus.

Mission: Think this week about the challenges you face and who you can ask for help.

Some things we could be challenged by:

  • Arguments with our friends
  • Finding our work hard
  • The cold weather

This week, Year 6B have thought about the different challenges that they have face in their day-to-day lives. A common theme was school work, with children identifying that they can ask a partner, someone else on their table or an adult if they are finding something difficult. We also thought about how at this time of year, it can be challenging to get up in a morning when it is cold and dark. The children also decided that friendships can be source of challenge and we have to remember to remain polite and kind, even when we disagreed. As part of our discussion, some children spoke about how they would like to challenge themselves to be more like God, spreading the Gospel with others.
On Friday, it was Holocaust Memorial Day. As part of this, we reflected on how important it is to ‘challenge’ anyone who is being discriminatory towards someone else.

This week year 1 have been thinking about the word challenge and how we try to challenge ourselves daily with our work and during our choosing time. We then discussed how sometimes we can face other challenges such as falling out with friends, feeling tired or sad or grumpy at school or not enjoying a certain lesson or topic. We thought of who we could ask to help us and we discovered God is always there for us to discuss our feelings and the challenges we might face as well as our family, teachers and friends.

This week’s mission allowed us to think about the different challenges we face each day and who we can ask for help when we need it. In our mission circles and Circle Time, we spoke about the range of challenges that we each have in our daily lives. Some things we felt challenged by were friendship problems, schoolwork, following school rules and making the right choices. Positively, when we reflected at the end of the week about some of the challenges we had discussed at the start of the week, some children were able to explain how their challenges seemed less challenging when they asked for help which was really great to hear. After all, we’re all here to help each other and continue God’s mission.
