Prayer is something that can be really hard to understand, let alone do. It is something which the disciples struggled with a bit; they needed to be taught how to pray by Jesus. Sometimes it comes naturally but often it’s something we forget about and don’t find time for. Prayer is simply a chat with God and you don’t need to use the right words, you don’t even need to use any words, you just need to put aside some time to be with God. It’s amazing what a difference a few minutes each day can make – try it for yourself this week!
Mission: Your mission this week is to reach out into your local community in prayer. Could you give to someone who needs your prayers at this time?
Things to think about:
- Who would you like to pray for?
- What would you like to talk to God about?
- How do you feel when you pray?

This week, we have been thinking about who we would like to pray for (chat to God about). In our time of Liturgical Prayer on Thursday, Nara and Noor-Fatima reminded Y6B of the prayer that Jesus taught us (the ‘Our Father’) – as well as giving us some time to write a prayer of our own. This week, we unpicked the meaning of the ‘Our Father’ in our second RE lesson of the week with the children also reflecting on what Jesus was teaching his followers. In Circle Time, we discussed the meaning of the word ‘compassion’. As part of this, we thought about who we might need to show compassion for and how we can do this. This included keeping those in need of compassion in our prayers. This linked well to the text we shared on World Book Day where we considered the plight of refugees.
This week in our Mission circles, we reflected on the meaning of prayer. Through discussion, we spoke about how when we pray, we are opening our hearts to Jesus and talking to him. A big well done to everyone who achieved their mission this week by reaching out to Jesus in prayer by thinking of someone in need of his help.
