Almsgiving means simply giving what we are able to those in need. It’s not just about giving money to charity however. You can give of yourself in so many ways – you can give your time, your compassion or your love to those in need and by doing so truly understand what Lent is all about.
Mission: Notice if someone is kind to you this week. Then pass an act of kindness onto someone else.

In Year 6B, we have spent some time identifying the acts of kindness we have given and received this week. Our acts of kindness have included: helping each other with work, bringing someone else’s packed lunches back to class, helping someone else when they fall over, encouraging someone to win a game, and tidying up someone else’s things for them. In Circle Time, we unpicked how we can show compassion to those who most need it, giving specific examples.
This week in Year 5, we have reflected on the meaning of almsgiving, and the importance of making the needs of other people our own by showing love for others through small acts of kindness. Our acts of kindness this week have included donating clothes, books, shoes and food to people in need, being kind to a family member each day, helping our learning partners and volunteering to help at home. Well done Year 5!
