To be a witness involves two things. The first is seeing something happen that you remember and that has an effect on you. The second is telling others about what you have seen. The first disciples were witness to the resurrection and we too can be witness to Christ when we recognise him at work in our world.
The question is, how will you tell others what you’ve seen so that the Good News continues to be heard?
Our Mission this week – at Holy Cross, how do we show in the way that we act that we are witnesses to the words of Jesus Christ?

This week Year 1 have been discussing what it means to be witness and who were witnesses to Jesus throughout his time on Earth. Year 1 discussed what they can witness of Jesus’ work everyday and how they can share this with others. We thought of lots of different ways such as singing, dancing, praying, reading the bible and scripture, art and drawings. We then thought about how we show at school that we are a witness to the words of Christ. We though about our golden rules of being kind and showing respect, how we try and show LEARN and SMART behaviour at all times and how we can be kind showing our love and care to others every day.
This week, Year 5 have explored how they could be witnesses to the words of Jesus Christ through their actions. The children talked about the importance of how we act, speak, look, and even think, should reflect Jesus and his ways.
When the children reflected on the mission at the end of the week, they were able to share many examples of how they had been wonderful witnesses of Jesus Christ. Their examples included: reading the bible, writing prayers and praying for those in need. Keep on being wonderful witnesses of Jesus Christ, Year 5!
In their current RE topic, Y6 have thought about witnesses from the New Testament (Paul, Lydia and Stephen). Today in class, we shared a picuture book called ‘The Island’ by Armin Greder which touches upon the themes of immigration and discrimination. The children were able to draw upon the way that Jesus faced his crucifixion as well as the ways in which Paul, Lydia and Stephen spoke and acted when responding to this book. The children in Y6B know the importance of being a witness to the Gospel and that they themselves have a mission from Christ to fulfil.
