Listening is an important part of dialogue.  It means paying attention to what others are saying and trying to understand their point of view.  Listening is not just about hearing words; it is about hearing the heart.  We are called to be good listeners and we should make sure to listen to those who are different from us.  Above all we should listen to what God is calling us to do in our lives.

Our mission this week:

Spend some time in prayer and listen to what God might be calling you to do for those around you> In you mission circles spend one minute in silence listening to God. Close your eyes and try to clear your mind.

This week in Year 2, we have enjoyed listening to each other and thinking about how we can be good listeners. This included spending time thinking about what makes a good friend and how we can listen to each other to support everyone’s needs and opinions. We listened carefully to the gospel reading from John about the wedding in Cana and discussed how this made us feel. One child said, ‘ this story gives us hope.’ She went on to explain that Jesus helps others by listening to what they need and he will listen to us too if we listen to him.

In Y6, Casper and Elizabeth gave us two quiet moments to speak to God in prayer during our Liturgical Prayer. To begin with, we prayed for those in prison and those less fortunate than ourselves who will be receiving our Harvest donations. Afterwards, we were encouraged to seek God’s forgiveness for any time when we should have or could have prayed to God and we didn’t. In class, we have also thought about times in the day when we could take a few moments with God – just before we go to sleep, as soon as we wake, while walking to/from school and ahead of journeys. The children in Y6 also enjoyed having time in their Mission Circles on Monday just to sit and talk to God.

This week, our mission was to listen more to each other, especially to those who are different to us. Listening to God is very important, as well as spending extra time in prayer and listening to what God might be calling us to do for those around us. When we reflected on this week’s mission in our Mission Circles on Friday, it was nice to hear the children talk about how they had used their time productively this week to become closer to God and to others around them. Some examples shared by the children included listening to a friend who was upset, talking to an elderly member of the family who was lonely and giving support to someone who was poor. Well done everyone for being amazing listeners and answering God’s calling this week
