Almsgiving is the practice of giving to those in need. It is a way of showing love and compassion for others. Almsgiving can also be a way of expressing our gratitude for God’s blessings. Almsgiving is an important part of Lent, as it allows us to share with those in need and to be an example of mercy in the world.

Our Mission Find a way to give something to charity or to someone in need this 3rd Week of Lent week.  In your mission circles discuss how and what we could give to others this week.

Year 6 idenitified several ways how they can show God’s love to others and which don’t necessarily involve giving money. Time was a key way they thought they could do this, whether they give their time to a charity event (helping fundraising efforts) or they give their time to someone they know who is feeling lonely. Some children linked this to fasting, idenitfying how if they spend less time on a device, they can spend more time with others. The children in Year 6 could also see how they could donate unwanted toys or clothes to others in need or add an extra item to their shopping and give this to a local food bank. Similarly, we discussed how giving sleeping bags or blankets to homeless people would make a difference to the lives of people living on the streets. As part of our pupil led liturgy, we prayed for others, recognising how important it is to lift others up in prayer. In both our Visio Divina and pupil led time of workship, we reflected upon the story of The Good Samaritan and the difference that our actions can make to the lives of others.
