This week, the chaplains were excited to go on their first Chaplaincy retreat day. Last year’s was cancelled because of COVID so this year was extra special. They met chaplains from St Josephs’s and from English Martyrs.
The morning was spend doing team building activities and thinking about how the chaplains could support one another and help the other children when they returned to school. Noah said that it really helped in to think about how, when we work together as a team and listen carefully to eachother, we can achieve more. Lacey said that discussing the activities as a team instead of rushing into them helped everyone feel included and made the team more effective.
Before lunch, we went on a Rosary walk with the children from the other schools. The children enjoyed learning about the chaplains from other schools and shared their ideas. Noah, Nicola and Tailun were very enthusiastic about the new friends they had made.
We spent some time after lunch putting together an action plan for the year. These are the things the chaplains chose to do. 1) decorate the prayer focus in the hall for Liturgy each week; 2) Plan and lead one whole school liturgy each term; 3) redesign the school prayer area so that it is a warm and inviting place to spend time with God; 4) Lead prayer groups twice a week.
The day finished with a shared Rosary. The children really enjoyed this and have been teaching the children in prayer group to say the Rosary in this special month of Our Lady.
