Our theme this week is Holiness. We are all called to Holiness and all are called to live a life pleasing to God. It is easy to think that we are not good enough to be Holy. However, the saints are a really good example that we can be saints too. Lots of the saints made lots and lots of mistakes along the way, and still managed to be holy enough to become a saint! A saint is one of those men or women who in their life, and often in their death, set an example of how to live for God. They give hope to us all that we can be better people and one day become saints ourselves.
This week take some time to think about how could you become a better person this in your life? Can you think of a saint (or someone you know) who might help you with this mission?

Following on from Mrs McVea’s assembly and our Monday morning Mission Circles, the children in 6B identified several ways in which they could be more Christ like. This included: helping at home, helping their friends and family, being patient with others and seeking forgiveness when they do something wrong. Some children linked to the actions of saints – for example, St Martin de Porres – and how they could give money or food to the poor. Others, linked to our own Class Saint – St Thomas Aquinas – and how we could follow his example and show dedication to whatever God has called us to do. This week’s Mission has linked well to our RE topic, where children have been thinking about the commitment needed to be a priest – but also howc God calls each and everyone of us to be a saint.
In this week’s liturgy, we were thinking about the word ‘holiness’ and how we could be a better person in this life. Some of our children came up with ‘I would help people’, we’re sharing and caring’ and ‘you can give your friends something to play with if they are sad’.
This week we celebrated All Saints Day with a Mass. Each class spoke about their class saint and someone special about them. Year 2’s class saint is Blessed Jordan of Saxony. He was from Germany. Blessed Jordan of Saxony wanted to love and serve God. He met St Dominic and later joined the Dominican order. In our child led liturgical prayer we gathered together by giving each other a kind gesture such as a hug, fist pump and high five. We then listened to the bible story about Saul who had a conversion of heart. We spoke about how God’s amazing love can change the life and heart of anyone. Our job from God is to share that love with others and pray for them as well. Our mission was to smile at someone and show kindness. Many children recognised that kindness and smiling at someone can make others feel happy and welcome.
In Year 4, we have celebrated the feast day of our class Saint St Martin de Porres. We reminded ourselves about his life and sacrifice for others. He always gave everything he had to those he felt needed it more than him and was well known for being a great healer. We discussed how we could aspire to be more like him and walk in God’s light. This was also a theme in our RE lessons where we were looking at the Gospel of John 1:5-7. We tried to live out the message from the scripture being extra kind to others.
