This week we will be celebrating the Feast of All Saints with a Mass in school. We will be learning through the example of our school patron Saint, how we can be more like the saints each day. Our House Saints have inspired our St Francis Way and we practise our Catholic Virtues each day so that we form our character- we are what we repeatedly do! The Saints inspire us to continue to practise the virtues through the way they lived their lives.
As classes we will answer the question: how do the Saints inspire us each day?

My two favourite saints are Joan of Arc and Thomas More.
Both of them fought for what they thought was right, and Joan even went into battle at a time when women didn’t do that sort of thing!
Thomas More stood stood up against Henry VIII who wanted to be head of the church in England, rather than the Pope. He lost his life because of his beliefs.
Both of these saints were true to themselves and I try to follow their example and not be lead by other people when I know it’s the wrong choice.

Mrs Byrne’s class have been inspired by St Joan of Arc. They were impressed at how brave she was, and they hope that they can look after their friends as well as she looked after the soldiers. They also recognised that her integrity, courage and strength are similar to our school virtues and values.
We have been inspired by Saint Francis because of the way he loved all of the animals in God’s kingdom and therefore treated them with the same respect as he treated people. He inspires us to look after God’s world and make sacrifices, like he did to, protect the world and the creations on it.
Mr Uttley’s class have been inspired by St Francis because he started off as a selfish person but chose to follow God and turned his life around. God told him to fix a Church, so St Francis fixed the building. Afterwards, St Francis realised God meant the people, not the building itself. Since this moment, he took great care of animals and became a much more selfless person.
We have been inspired by two saints. The first is St Francis because he changed his life by giving up everything to follow Jesus and to love and serve others. He inspires us to be unselfish and to love and serve God and other people.
We are also inspired by St Oscar Romero who stood up for the poor and oppressed, peacefully opposing a corrupt government who were stealing land from the poor. He was courageous and was martyred for standing up for what is right. We can be like St Oscar Romero by always standing up for what is right even when it is difficult and by always looking after other people and never being unkind.
We have been discussing St Pauls teachings in the way he teaches us to, “in everything that you say or do, do it as Jesus would want you to”. The children talked about how God has chosen us, and it is up to us to be caring, generous, gentle and patient to others. Most importantly, love each other.
