This week’s word is ‘Discipleship’.
We heard about when Jesus called his first disciples and how Jesus showed them that they should follow him.
We talked about what it means to follow Jesus, to act as Jesus would want us to act. Some ideas were:
- to be kind
- to help people
- to love one another
- to be forgiving
- to share

Year 3 have explored Discipleship through prayer this week as they all created prayers to go onto our schools prayer tree. The children prayed for their hopes for the new year. These included end to the wars that are going on at the moment, care for those in need and how they can try harder with their work.
In EYFS the children have been showing love to others by being their friend and sharing their toys. Some of them have helped out at home by washing the dishes for their parents , held a door open for some adults, and helped with the cooking.
In Year 5 we helped our school community by playing with younger children on the playground; helping a new student in our class settle and feel welcome; and by making sure we put all our litter in the bin. We spoke about why it is important to serve others (like it asks in our school mission statement) and how this helps us to be a disciple of Jesus by following His example.
In Year 2 we talked about how we could help each other within our class community. We said that we could help each other with our work, we could share the resources. We also talked about being kind to each other and what that would look like in the classroom and on the playground.
In Year One we talked about what it means to follow Jesus. We thought of ways we could be like Jesus and do things that he would do. We can be kind to our friends and make sure everyone is included at playtime. We can share and use kind words. We can also follow Jesus at home by listening to our parents and showing them respect and kindness.
In Year 4 we spoke at length about what it means to show Discipleship. It was covered extensively in our RE lessons this week but we also looked at ways in which we could show it throughout our school and local community. We reflected on how the apostles showed it towards Jesus and learned how we can act just like they did (a part from Judas) in our daily lives.
Year 6 decided to keep in our prayers those who are experiencing hard ship whether that be financial, health or relationship. We would like to pray that these people find a way out of their difficult situations.
