Mission: To work, rest, play and pray each day

This is a reading taken from one of the letters that St Paul wrote. This one was written to some of his friends who were living in Thessalonica, just north of Greece. Today it is called Macedonia.

Dear Friends,

Help everyone who works hard for you.

Love and respect them for what they do.

Get on well with one another.

Encourage each other to work hard.

Help people who are afraid.

Take care of those who are not very strong.

Be patient with everyone.

Make sure you and your friends don’t try to get your own back.

Always do what is best for you and everyone else.

Most of all be happy and pray every day.

Make sure you say thank you to God and remember that God loves you.

The word of the Lord

Thanks be to God

Paul is telling his friends in Thessalonica, and us, to think about what we are doing.  If we work all the time we get too tired; If we play all the time we won’t learn anything; each day we should spend some time resting and some time in prayer.

The mission this week therefore is to work, rest, play and pray each day.

Year 5 prayed for people in their families who are sick, those who are homeless and those who are poor. They made an Advent promise to play with siblings and those who hadn’t got someone to play with. They also promised to take care of themselves by going to bed early to rest and sleep.

Year 3 have all been going to bed on time and not staying up late so that we are rested. Hayley said her prayers before bed each night and went to church with her mum and sister on zoom. All of year 3 have said their class prayers everyday. As we’ve had some wet plays this week we have enjoyed playing games together, especially top trumps.

Year One have really enjoyed the mission this week!
We prayed around the Christmas tree which was beautiful. We all enjoyed doing Just Dance during wet play and Golden time with our friends.
The children worked really hard in gymnastics and they said that the only time they rested was at lunchtime when they were eating!

Year Two have worked really hard this week. They have enjoyed restful break and lunch times with each other in the playground. The children have enjoyed their Yoga sessions this week and have said prayers in the morning, at lunch and home time and have said prayers for those who are less fortunate than ourselves.

Foundation stage this week have been working really hard on their Christmas play! We have also worked really hard on our phonics and numbers , we are very proud when we try our best. We love to play with our friends. We have been kind and sharing this week. We say our prayers every day in class and some children told the class how they say a prayer with their parents before they go to sleep.

Year 6 have been working very hard this week and have made themselves proud with how much progress they have made since the start of the year. All of this however made them very appreciative of the rest and play in the week. We have enjoyed prayer, meditation, mindfulness art and playing games together at break times. In Year 6 we understand that hard work is important but also that we must make time to look after ourselves and do things that make us happy. We have been thanking God through prayer for the things that make us happy and for the comforts that allow us to look after ourselves such as cosy beds and running water. We asked God to look after those less fortunate than ourselves.
