In our Mission assembly this week, Mrs Beer told us the story of Jesus healing the blind man – how he had never given up hope of being healed.
We heard these lines:
When we are sad and we reach a point where life is very difficult for us there is one word that is important –hope
Those in prison hope for freedom,
Those who are friendless hope for friendship.
Those who are being persecuted hope for justice
Those who are thirsty hope for water
As long as we have hope there is a reason to live.
We talked about how we can keep trying when our school work is hard, when others are faster than us in PE, when we feel like we have no friends or no time to do what we want to to do.
Our mission this week, therefore, is to keep going when things get difficult and not give up hope.

Year 5 discussed times that they found difficult but they didn’t give up.
Some of these included when they were learning to play the steel pans and they made a mistake and carried on, when they were in a zoom lessons and was struggling with the learning but kept going, when it was crazy hair day and they didn’t want to do it but did with a smile on my face and when they made a mistake in R.E but carried on and didn’t give up hope.
Year 6 spoke about how this has been an important message all year. Living through this pandemic has been very hard at times (especially home schooling and not seeing family and friends) but we kept going and found joy in the little things we could; now are coming out the other side! We have learned that, like the blind man, we must never give up hope as brighter days are always near by and even when we feel our lowest we know we aren’t alone.
In Year 2, children have been learning to hula-hoop and play basketball this week and they found they if they kept practising and didn’t give up they got better. Some children have made things this week and when it went wrong they didn’t give up. Some children talked about finding maths and English tricky but they didn’t give up and they kept working at it and it got easier.
Year 1 had lots of examples of how they have to keep trying and not give up. Here are some of them:-
We watched the Perseverence Rover landing on Mars and thought about all the challenges the scientists must have faced to be able to achieve this.
Most of the children have been learning to ride their bikes without stabilisers and said how difficult this was – but they keep trying even when they fall off and hurt themselves!
Fastening coats is also a challenge in Year 1, that most of us have mastered now.
Year 3 talked about how now that they are learning to play the ukulele that they mustn’t give up when it gets hard but keep trying as it will get easier. We also talked about not giving up when we find our work hard but that we could ask for help and have another go.
Year 4 discussed how when things in life are difficult how important it was to turn to family and friends for support. Some of us have found it hard to remember all our times tables but have persevered with the help of our parents have now improved our weekly score. We have also been able to use the support we have received as a model to help others when things are difficult for them.
