This afternoon, our Year 3 children led us in a beautifully thoughtful Advent Liturgy.
After the children had performed the words and actions to ‘Awake, Awake’, we were led in Sorry prayers as we said sorry for the times we had not lived as God wants us to live.
We then heard a reading from the Gospel according to St Luke when Mary was called to bear the son of God.
Here is an extract:
‘The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and God’s power will rest upon you. For this reason the holy child will be called the Son of God. Remember your relative Elizabeth. It is said that she cannot have children, but she herself is now six months pregnant, even though she is very old. For there is nothing that God cannot do.”
“I am the Lord’s servant,” said Mary; “may it happen to me as you have said.” And the angel left her.’
The children explained that just as Mary was called, so we are called to be good Christians by showing love to those around us.
Each class then shared what they will be doing this Advent to achieve this mission. These promises will be hung on our prayer tree to remind us of what we have promised to do.
Maria, the Year 3 chaplain, then constructed the Advent Wreath as other children explained the meaning behind each aspect.

When it was complete we asked God to help us to be more like Jesus during Advent.
We finished by singing “Come, Lord Jesus, Come.”
