The chaplaincy team have been thinking about how to spread God’s peace on Earth. They led the school in a liturgy that encouraged everyone to live their lives in a peaceful and kind way.
The year 34 chaplains wrote a prayer to help us remember that we can have peace in our hearts by trusting God. We never need to worry because he is looking after us.
The Year 5 chaplains chose the scripture from St John’s Gospel where Jesus told us that, when he ascended to Heaven, he left us his peace so that we never needed to be worried or afraid. We can keep his peace in our hearts to help us every day.
They asked everyone to respond to the Gospel by sharing the sign of peace because it is a symbol of the peace of Jesus spreading through the community by the actions of the people who believe in him.
The Year 6 chaplains chose a mission based on their experience of things that damage peace – people getting frustrated and angry and using unkind words because of these feelings. To help stop this happening they gave everyone the mission -“Before you say anything to someone, say something kind.”
They finished with the song ‘Peace like a River’ because it make them feel that the love and peace of Jesus was flowing through the school like an endless river.
Responses: Year 34 children chose to say something kind to people they don’t usually speak to at playtime. Year 12 tried very hard to be kind to everyone even if they were feeling a bit cross.
