Mission: To help someone to heal

This week’s word is “healing”. As we celebrate the Feast Day of Our Lady of Lourdes this week, we heard how Mary appeared to St Bernadette and how the waters in Lourdes are believed to have healing powers.

We looked at where Lourdes is on a map.

We watched an animation of when Jesus bought a young girl back from dead. We talked about how we cannot perform miracles like this, but that healing does not have to be physical healing, it can be emotional healing too.

We discussed how we can make someone who is sad, smile; ask someone who is lonely to play with us; help someone who is feeling angry to calm down. This is all healing too. Sometimes, all we have to do, is listen to someone.

This week’s mission is to help someone to heal. Let us know how you achieve this week’s mission in the comments below.

Year 3 have discussed healing in a variety of ways. We have spoken about how when someone is not well we can look after them, strategies for healing ourselves by understanding how we are feeling and what to do to help us feel better and finally we looked at how Jesus healed the sick in our bible story.

This week EYFS have been discussing how we can help others to heal emotionally. The children decided that some of the ways they could do this is by making people feel happy and better by showing love and kindness to them. They said they could achieve this by giving someone a picture that they have drawn or a hug or a kiss to cheer them up if they are sad. Another way they could heal them is by making them smile, by telling them a joke or by inviting them for some nice food.

In Year 4 we talked about the power of prayer for healing. We shared about the times we have prayed for people to get better and asked God to place his healing hands on them. We said that we would pray everyday for our classmates who are off sick that God would heal them quickly so they could return to us. We thought about how we could ‘heal’ at school and said that we would try to be aware of those that are not feeling themselves and try to make them feel happier by talking to them, making them laugh and smile.

Year 6 have worked really hard recently on udnerstanding our emotions and recognising how we can regulate ourselves. We used this weeks mission as an opportunity to discuss how we can help others to regulate their emotions and therefore heal from anger or sadness. We talked about including others in our games, being kind to everyone and asking someone what we can do to help them when they ae struggling. We recognise we are all different and all heal in different ways and we must respect that!

Year 5 thought of ways they could help others heal. Some of these included asking people if they’re ok if they seemed a little out of sorts or to provide first aid if someone has fallen down. If someone is lonely, invite them to play in our games and talk to them so that they feel included and valued.
