As a Christian, we are all called to be an example and to be inspirational to other people. If only it was that easy! When Jesus ascended into heaven he gave us the job of spreading the Good News to the world and one of the best ways to do that is by being a good example. Think this week about who looks up to you and of course, who you look up to.
Our Mission this week – How can you be a good role model and set a good example to those around you?

Y6B have identified lots of ways in which they can be an example to those around them this week. Their suggestions have included the following: following our Golden Rules (be kind, show respect); following LEARN and SMART so that others around school do this too; sharing and taking turns with the OPAL toys; helping others with their work or helping around school; being encouraging of others; using their manners at all times (please and thank you); having an ‘I can’ attitude towards everything and taking time out of their day to check in with others. We are looking forward to coming back together on Friday to see which of these (and more) we have managed to live out.
Year 1 have been thinking about how they look up to as a good example. We came up with many ideas such as parents, grandparents, teachers, priests, athletes and helpers in our community. We then thought about how we could be a good example to those around us at home, school and in our community. We thought about our golden rules, how we are SMART and LEARN and how we always try to follow in Jesus’ footsteps by showing love and kindness to all. This is how we hope to spread the Good News to others.
We had discussions within our mission circles and as a class about how we can you be a good role model and set a good example to those around us.
We look up to those who show us the right behaviours or demonstrate the character muscles that inspire us. These could be members of our families like older siblings, parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles or people in the school community. It could be people who teach us in clubs or who have qualities that we admire or look up to. It could also be our friends.
We are also responsible for being good role models for others in our class and also the many children at Holy Cross who are younger than us. We can do this by showing kindness to others, by doing your fair share and living our lives in the way Jesus taught us.
This week, Year 5 reflected on how they would continue Jesus’ job of spreading the word to the rest of the world. Through discussion, the children shared the importance of being a good role model and setting a good example to those around them. The children’s examples included: being kind and respectful, listening to others more, helping their learning partners, and giving to those in need. Well done Year 5 for showcasing many wonderful examples throughout the week!
