This week’s word of the week was ‘poverty’. We talked about how this means that some people barely have enough to live on – to pay for their homes, food and clothing.
We heard this scripture reading:
As Jesus sat near the Temple treasury, he watched the people as they dropped in their money. Many rich men dropped in a lot of money; then a poor widow came along and dropped in two little copper coins, worth about a penny. He called his disciples together and said to them, “I tell you that this poor widow put more in the offering box than all the others. 44 For the others put in what they had to spare of their riches; but she, poor as she is, put in all she had—she gave all she had to live on.” Mark 12:41-44
This shows us that we should give whatever we can, no matter how little.
We talked about how there are members of our school community who cannot afford some of the things others can such as:
- school shoes
- trainers
- football boots
- plimsolls
- shin pads
- winter coats
Your mission this week is to see if you have any of these items at home that you could donate to help those who cannot afford them.
