This week’s Word is compassion. We talked about how this means understanding what someone else is feeling.
We heard the story of the Feeding of the Five Thousand:

We talked about how Jesus showed compassion by understanding that his followers would be hungry and fed them.
We discussed lots of ways in which the children could show compassion to their classmates:
Listen: Listen without judgement and pay close attention to what others are saying.
Be encouraging: Use positive language to motivate others and tell them what they are doing right.
Be supportive: Offer to help others with tasks or challenges, and be there for them when they need emotional support.
Be accepting: Accept people for who they are and forgive them when they make mistakes.
Be respectful: Speak with kindness and be patient.
Be empathetic: Try to understand what others are feeling, even if you don’t agree with them.
Be mindful: Acknowledge your own thoughts and emotions without reacting to them.
Practice acts of kindness: Donate clothes, help serve meals, or hold the door open for someone.
Apologise: Own your mistakes and apologize when you’ve hurt or offended someone.
Be an interested listener: Ask questions about a person’s life and personal effects.
Your mission this week is to show compassion to your classmates. Let us know how you got on in the comments below.

In EYFS we have been showing compassion in different ways. One child held the door for the class teacher when she was holding heavy pumpkins, other children have invited others to play with them if they were alone at lunchtime, one child looked after someone who was crying and they listened to them and one child apologised when they weren’t being the best friend.
In year 3, we have showed compassion by using our amazing listening skills to ensure everyone feels heard and welcome in and around school.
This week Year 6 have shown compassion by spreading kindness around the school and at home. To do this they have helped people who were hurt and upset; offered to help parents at home; coached and supported each other during PE; and cared for our EYFS buddies on the walk to church. We try to be good role models of compassion to the younger pupils in the school.
