On Friday 12th February the Chaplaincy team led a liturgy for the whole school, parents and governors. Our Chaplaincy liturgy was about ‘Love’. This is because February is the month of love because of St Valentine’s Day.
It started with some music that Maja, our Year 5 chaplain had chosen.
Julia, our Year 1 chaplain set up the focal point using items she had chosen.
Maja introduced ‘Love as the theme of our liturgy.
I read the scripture which was this:
Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud; love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs; love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth. Love never gives up; and its faith, hope, and patience never fail. Love is eternal. There are inspired messages, but they are temporary; there are gifts of speaking in strange tongues, but they will cease; there is knowledge, but it will pass.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Bianca, our Year 4 chaplain then read a response to the scripture, reminding us of how we should always show love.
Adam, our Year 3 chaplain gave us our mission: to show love to someone. He asked us to write on a heart-shaped piece of paper the reason why we love someone then we have to give that heart to the person we wrote about.
Veronica, our Year 1 chaplain then read out a prayer she had written and the liturgy ended with “Love is something if you give it away” – a song chosen by Julia, our Year 1 chaplain.
It came together really well even though some of the chaplains were in school and some were at home. We all joined our school community via Zoom.
I most definitely enjoyed being part of our liturgy as reading in liturgies is fun for me.
Since our liturgy was about ‘Love’, it made me think about the people who love me and care for me.
The mission was to show love to a person who loves you. I fulfilled this by helping my mum around the house and with the shopping.
