Mission: To identify what support people need and to give it to them

This week’s word of the week is ‘giving’.

We talked about the things we can give:

  • time – to help with chores, to play with someone who is lonely and so on
  • toys – to those who have none
  • food – to those who are hungry
  • money to charity

At the root of all of these things is love. We give things out of love.

We had a visit from Mo Walker of the Leicester Riders. He had a foot injury and was due to undergo surgery the next day. We knew he needed a healthy foot, but we could not give that to him. Instead, we gave our prayers for a swift recovery.

Your mission this week is to find what support people around you need and to give it to them. Let us know in the comments below how you get on.

In Year 4 we talked about how we were going to o give our time. Leah said she was going to give her time to help her mum and dad when the new baby came so they didn’t have to do everything. Some of us said we were going to give sometime to our grandparents to talk to them about what they have been up to. Some children said they were going to give to charity so those who didn’t have much might get to enjoy something nice. As a class we also said would give our prayers to those who are unwell and ask God to use his healing powers.

In Year 5 this week we have discussed all the =signs we can notice when someone needs our help and the way sin which we can help them. We discussed how some of us do not always ask for help when we need it and as a class, we should be extra vigilant in those times and be ready to help others. We have also discussed helping those in our class who need support emotionally, be aware of different needs and struggles and not provoking or pestering them but acknowledging the problem and allowing them to the time or support they need, such as giving them a hug or some space.

This week year 3 have thought about the theme of ‘giving’ and how we can help others. The children thought about how they can help their parents and carers at home to do chores, help someone on the playground who may be lonely or upset.

In EYFS we have been talking about the importance of giving and how it makes us and others feel. A child gave the teachers some lollies at parents evening, some have given their time to others by holding the door open, given people a hug and a kiss, shared their games, given chocolates to others and some children gave money to the poppy appeal.

In year 2 this week we have explored the theme of ‘Giving.’ We have thought about what we are good at and how we can use our special talents to help other people in different ways. This could be taking a little time away from our busy lives to show someone something. We could also give away some money or a toy that we don’t play with anymore to make someone happy. This would also make us happy! We sang ‘The Magic Penny’ as we thought it illustrated the theme perfectly!

In Year One we have talked about the theme of ‘giving’. We know that giving is not really about gifts that you buy but about giving your love and kindness to others. We talked about how we can give our kindness around the school and on the playground. We can ask people to play who are a bit left out, we can give someone our time and ask them how they are. We also talked about how we can give at home. We can help our Mums and Dads with jobs and give them our love with hugs and kisses.

In Year 6 this week we have been looking out for lots of little ways we can give to people and help them when they need us. We all found times where we could support our friends in lessons by offering help or by making them smile and laugh when they were feeling down. At home we said we could give our time to help out more and use our talents to make those around us happy.
