This week’s word is “sacrifice”. We heard that it means to give something up.
We heard about the ultimate act of sacrifice in the Bible:
We talked about how God gave up the most precious thing to Him: His son. We therefore only make a sacrifice when we give up something that is very important to us.
We can sacrifice our time doing something we enjoy in order to help others or spend time with others. We can sacrifice playing our favourite game so that we can play something our friends want to play. We can sacrifice some of our pocket money and give it to charity.
This week’s mission therefore is to undertake a small act of sacrifice.

In Year 4 we are going to make a small act of sacrifice by giving up some of time to play at home to help cook dinner, do the cleaning or washing . We are trying to imagine what Jesus felt making his huge sacrifice for us and to show how much we appreciate what he did by following his example in a small way.
Year 2 made brilliant links from their RE lesson about Good Friday, they realised that Jesus sacrificed his life so that we can live ours and even if we sin we will be forgiven.
The children were moved when discussing the sacrifice Jesus made for us they said that he was very brave to be told that he was going to die and then to carry his own cross.
They were sad that he gave his live for ours but were thankful.
In EYFS the children have sacrificed some of their time to pray to God, some gave up their pocket money and gave that to charity and some children gave up their play time at home to help with chores like doing the washing .
In Year One we talked about how Jesus sacrificed his life for us as we have been learning all about the Easter story. We talked about how we can be like Jesus in small ways. We can give up some of our time at playtime to check on others. We are enjoying sacrificing some of our playtime to do the Lenten walk as the money that we make will help others.
Year 6 have pledged to sacrifice our time. Time is so precious and invaluable to others. By giving up time to talk to each other, play with someone you would not usually or help others out we are being more like God.
