This week’s word is ‘change’.
We heard that we all have the power to make changes for the better, both in ourselves and in the wider world. Some changes may be tiny, but lots of small changes, make a big difference.
We also live in a democracy where “everyone has a say” and therefore we have the power to make bigger changes too.
We heard the story of Creation from the Book of Genesis.
At St Clare’s, we are passionate about looking after God’s Creation, but we know that lots of things that humans are doing are damaging the planet and that needs to change.
This week, we will welcome our local MP, Andrew Bridgen, into school. As a Member of Parliament, he has a say in government decisions. We will encourage him to help to make changes to reduce climate change and improve the health of our environment.
Your mission this week is to do something to make a change for the better in our community. Therefore, you will write a letter to Mr Bridgen or draw him a poster, encouraging him to vote for climate-friendly policies in parliament. You need to think about what aspect to focus on. Ideas include:
- Encouraging more walking and cycling to school
- More bins to reduce litter
- Better recycling facilities to reduce waste
- More electric car charging points to reduce pollution from petrol and diesel

The EYFS children have thought of ways they could do something to change the community for the better. They decided that they would take care of animals, recycle different materials, donate money to look after animals, create more green areas, put rubbish in the bin, cut less trees, walk to school instead of coming by car, plant more flowers/plants for the bees and be kind to each other.
Year 6 have written letters to Mr Bridgen asking him to promote change to help our environment and protect God’s creation. Some of the main ideas we discussed were: -increasing the use of electric cars
-closing Convent drive to parents at the start and end of the day
-investing in fusion energy
-reduce the use of fossil fuels
-plant more trees and chop down less
-encouraging people to walk or bike to school/work
In Year One we have talked out our Wonderful world. We thought of ways we could look after it and make a difference. We agreed to think about making sure we put our litter in the bin properly and pick up any that we see.
In Year 2 we decided that we would like to encourage Mr Bridgen to have more litter bins put around Coalville and provide more recycling to encourage those that live in the area to do more for their environment.
The Year 5 children wrote letters to our local MP explaining how sad they were that people don’t take better care of the world on a global level, such a big companies, and at a local level with issues such as litter and recycling. In their letters the children suggested changes such as more recycling bins through your town, recycling collections every week and town-wide litter picking events. They also put forward suggestions for change on a larger scale such as electric school buses.
Year 3 children created posters for our local MP explaining how we can take better care of our world. Ideas included; stopping congested roads near school, recycle, do not litter and many other brilliant ideas. The posters were then presented to Mr Bridgen during our whole school assembly by our year 3 student council representatives.
