Mission: To look after ourselves

In this week’s assembly, Mrs Beer talked to us about how special we are as we are created by God in his image.

We heard this reading based on Genesis 1:26

God created man and woman.

God created them to be like God.

They could know and love God.

They could know and love one another.

God blessed them.

The word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

This week, many of the children in school will be having a flu vaccination – which is one way in which we can look after ourselves – by preventing us from catching an illness.

Year 6 joined Mrs Beer in the hall and came up with some other ideas:

Eating healthily

Taking exercise

Doing things we enjoy

Staying away from people that upset us

Keeping safe – such as only crossing the road when the green man is on.

What will you do this week to look after yourself?

    YEAR ONE
This week, Marik has been doing exercises and eating vegetables to keep healthy and the whole class took part in a ‘Cosmic Yoga’ session on Wednesday.
Poppy crosses the road holding mummy’s hand and Winter has been brushing her teeth. Julia reminded us that we need to wash our hands and faces too.

Year 2 have eaten lots of fruit and vegetables this week. The classroom has been kept clean so nobody trips over and hurts themselves. Several children have been looking after their brothers and sisters at home when having a bath. Year 2 have also taken part in a yoga session and two PE lessons with Mr Mitchell. They have also continued to gel and wash their hands to keep safe and well.

In Year 6 this week we have lived out the words of the scripture by looking after ourselves. We have done this by having the flu vaccine, joining in PE lessons and understanding the importance of exercise, discussing ways we can walk home safely now it is getting darker (eg wear bright coats and reflective items) and we have been reminding each other to drink more water during the day to stay hydrated. We understand that as God’s children we have a duty to look after ourselves as much as we look after each other.

This week Year 3 have followed the mission and scripture reading by doing some exercise everyday either in PE or in class using action worship songs. A lot of Year 3 children also had their Flu vaccinations to protect them from becoming unwell. We talked about how to keep ourselves healthy by eating the right foods whilst finding out about what they ate in the Stone Age. We also talked about how to keep our minds healthy by talking about problems and doing things we enjoy.

Year 5 have been looking after themselves by eating their five a day of fruit and vegetables. They have also been going to bed at a decent time and getting plenty of sleep. They talked about staying away from strangers to keep safe and drinking plenty of water to stay healthy.

Year 4 have been looking after themselves by doing things they enjoy doing such as making each other laugh and smile and playing games with their friends.

In Foundation stage we talked about the importance of washing our hands regularly throughout the day. We also talked about how we should drink water to stay healthy. We thought about healthy foods and thought about which fruits and vegetables are our favourites.
